Samsung SmartThings Setup Guide
Samsung SmartThings allows you to control compatible smart locks, sensors, switches, cameras and other smart home devices from a single app.
This guide walks you through connecting compatible devices to SmartThings and explains what to do if your device uses Tuya Smart, Matter, Google Home, Alexa, Apple Home or Home Assistant.

Step 1: Install SmartThings

Matter Support

The device first connects to:

- Smart Life
- Aqara
- Another supported platform
and is then linked to SmartThings.
Step 4: Add a SmartThings-Compatible Device
- Open SmartThings.
- Tap the "+" button.
- Select Add Device.
- Search for the device brand.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Once setup is complete:
- Assign the device to a room.
- Give the device a meaningful name.
- Test device operation.
Setting Up Tuya Devices with SmartThings
Many Armstrong Smart Access products use the Tuya platform.
For these devices:
Recommended Setup Order
- Install the Tuya Smart App.
- Add the device in Tuya Smart.
- Confirm it operates correctly.
- Connect it to SmartThings if supported.
This is usually the easiest and most reliable approach.
Connecting Matter Devices
Matter is a smart home standard that allows devices from different manufacturers to work together more easily.
If your device supports Matter:
- Open SmartThings.
- Select Add Device.
- Choose Scan QR Code.
- Scan the Matter setup code.
- Follow the prompts.
Matter devices generally provide the simplest setup experience.
Organising Devices
After setup:
Create rooms such as:
- Front Door
- Living Room
- Office
- Garage
- Master Bedroom
This makes devices easier to find and easier to control using voice assistants.
Creating Automations
SmartThings allows you to create simple routines.
Examples include:
Lock Automation
When everyone leaves home:
- Lock the front door.
Security Automation
When a door sensor opens:
- Turn on a light.
- Send a notification.
Convenience Automation
At sunset:
- Switch on selected smart lights.
SmartThings and Google Home
Many users connect SmartThings and Google Home together.
Typical setup:
- Device connects to SmartThings.
- SmartThings connects to Google Home.
- Google Assistant controls the device.
